1 AVIVA ENDEAN & PETER KNIGHT

Celebrated Australian musicians Aviva Endean and Peter Knight perform solo material from their new albums Moths & Stars and Shadow Phases

Aviva Endean and Peter Knight have a long musical association through a diverse range of bands and projects in Australia that also regularly tour internationally including the Australian Art Orchestra. Each has recently recorded solo albums for the iconic Australian label Room40, which is dedicated to singular creative expression. Both releases dive deep into the possibilities of extended instrumental performance and electroacoustic approaches. Aviva is a virtuosic clarinettist with an unmistakable solo language created with preparations and augmentation to her various wind instruments, including miniature speakers, pedals, pipes. Peter has developed a lush language for the trumpet that draws on the creative thread set in motion for the instrument by Jon Hassell. He uses delays, tape loops, and field recordings to create a distinctive world of sound.

2 MARIA LAURENT

pianet & effects

In her solo, Maria Laurent tackles the pianet as her unique, main instrument.
A bare pianet, a sounding board. She explores its mechanical contours, while allowing herself to be drawn into electronic lands. Always on the border between the acoustic and the amplified. Of the mutation and the unforeseen. A solo made of nooks and surprises.

Acoustic, electric, synthetic, Maria Laurent creates sound. She explores, manipulates, plays keyboards and synthesizers. In addition to her solo work, she collaborates and plays in several formations from Strasbourg’s area, navigating from electro – with her duo ENCORE – to improvised and experimental music – in a duo with Lise Barkas (recently programmed at the Météo Festival), in the duo BLOC with Théo Zimmermann, or with Dreieck Interférences.
